Hello!
First off, thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog! I started the blog to help you with your photography needs. You can find 3 TIPS FOR A GREAT SESSION WITH CHILDREN, 5 TIPS FOR PICKING CLOTHING FOR YOUR PORTRAIT SESSION, HOW TO PICK THE RIGHT PHOTOGRAPHER FOR YOU, and so much more at hillarypairphotography.com.
I was looking through my blogs and I have never officially introduced myself. I thought now would be a great time to tell you a little bit about me and how Hillary Pair Photography came to be.
As you can probably tell by my business name, my name is Hillary and I'm the photographer and artist behind Hillary Pair Photography.
When I was young, I knew memories were important to me. I knew that if I had pictures of the memories I made, it would help me recall the memories when I looked back through them. I would get a disposable camera every chance I got. I took pictures of everything I thought I would want to reminisce on. If you don’t know what a disposable camera is, it is a plastic camera with film in it that was used once.
I always loved and admired beautiful pictures, but it never occurred to me that it could be a career. That was until I stumbled upon a photography program at Ivy Tech Community College.
I needed one more class so I could get my full-time schedule for financial aid purposes. I came across a photography class and thought it would be interesting. I fell in love immediately. I was so amazed by the techniques and strategies and couldn’t get enough of the class. That's when I decided to go for a photography degree.
While I was learning the art of photography many friends and family members helped me by modeling for school and personal projects. I am so grateful for everyone who helped me through that part of my journey. My niece and daughter had a camera pointed at them A LOT! Children have always been my favorite subjects. They are so much fun! I especially enjoy making composites or what I call Imagination Portraits from a child’s dream or imagination.
I started Peaceful Moments Photography while I was finishing my degree. When I look back at the photos from those days, I cringe. I was enthusiastic and eager to start a business, but I still had a lot to learn. In photography you are always learning, especially with the changes in technology every day.
I was charging what I thought was a good price, because that is what I saw people around me doing. I sat down one day and calculated how much I made hourly. It came out to less than $2 an hour!! And that was before I took out expenses! I was making pennies or less.
I had had enough; I decided it was time for a change. I invested in photography business classes to learn how to run a successful business. I learned how to set prices and not guess. I learned how to serve my clients well and be a blessing to them.
I rebranded my entire business. The name had to change. No one got it right, even friends and family messed it up. In 2021 I rebranded to Hillary Pair Photography with a whole new business dedicated to a full-service photography experience.
My passion changed to help busy moms. Moms are so busy and overwhelmed. They have so much on their plate. They need and deserve a session experience that they can enjoy. A session experience that does not add to their long to-do list.
Now I found another passion, brand photography. Today businesses need many photos to run a business. I really enjoy helping businesses be more successful. Photos can do so much for a business. Think about it. Do you do business with businesses that have bad photos of their products? How do the photos a business use influence your thoughts and trust of the business?
I spend most of my days editing, taking photos, or helping my clients and love every minute of it. For me, what I do is so much more than just a job, it's something I picture myself doing for years to come, and I honestly couldn't imagine doing anything else.
I'm also a wife and mother working hard to do everything and be everything to everyone. I know you moms out there get it. I enjoy crafting, sewing, baking, and reading a good book in my free time (when I get any). I enjoy watching shows; Friends, Gilmore Girls, Virgin River, The Good Doctor, and The Chosen are among my favorites. I have found a green thumb and enjoy growing many things.
My family and I love the outdoors; hiking or walking trails is one of our favorite activities when the weather is right. We enjoy church on Sunday mornings with a nap in the afternoon. We spend a lot of time rushing to practices and games and are so thankful for the breaks between seasons. At least I am lol.
I'd love to get to know you a little better, comment below and come say hello and tell me are you a crafty person too? What do you do with your family?
What does photography mean to you? What would a full-service experience do for you and your sanity? If you could, how often would you have portraits of your children taken?
Are you a business owner? How could professional photography change your business? How would professional photos change the way customers or clients see your business?
Have a blessed and amazing day!
