Hello there! Thanks for coming back!
I have some great information for you that can help ease the stress of planning your fall portrait session. Most people have no idea where to have their portraits taken. That's where I can help! When planning your session and figuring out your vision for your portraits, I can begin to find and suggest places that will go with your vision.
Today I would love to give you some basic ideas on how to pick a great location for fall portraits.
First, and this is pretty obvious, you need trees for fall portraits. Keep in mind the type of trees around also. Everyone gets fall portraits because how beautiful the trees look when they change colors. We want to see those beautiful leaves. I have a few suggestions when you are trying to find a location for your portraits.
Open spaces are great for portraits. When you can get far from the trees, you will be able to see more leaves. When you are too close to the trees you will only see brown bark. Creating distance from you and the trees will allow for more of the background to be in the photograph. That means more pretty leaves to see.
Parks are a great option in our area. I do a lot of portraits in our local parks. They have trees that look beautiful in the fall, enough space for different options during the session, and most have a pond or some type of water that look great in the fall. Deming, Dobb's, and Fowler Parks are all great options. Even the green grassy area on Ohio Street leading into Deming Park is a beautiful place for fall portraits.
Country Roads can be a great option also! Who doesn't love a great country cruise in the fall? Country roads are often arched in trees and in the fall it is so pretty! However, please be aware there are some safety concerns. Make sure your photographer takes the proper precautions to let drivers know you are in the area. Putting signs down the roadway, is a great way to let drivers know people are ahead.
Trails and walkways are a good way to go also. We have plenty of around in our local area you can use. Heritage Trail has some beautiful areas. There is also the trail along the Wabash River at Fairbanks Park. Many of our parks have trails that are truly a breathtaking sight. Fowler park has my favorite trail with a cute little pond.
I hope this was helpful for you. If you need help picking out clothing for your session, you can read my blog right here with some tips to help.
We have some great places around for fall portraits. Indiana can be so beautiful in the fall. I'm sure that is why it is the busiest time of the year for photographers.
